FAQ
Here are some frequently asked questions:
Will we follow the exact itinerary?
We follow the planned route, but we also stop anytime we come across interesting photo opportunities. Often, half a day is kept free to return to spots participants wish to revisit.
Is Shutter Expeditions an expensive agency?
Not at all. Shutter Expeditions adjusts its prices to make your dream accessible. We work directly, with no intermediaries.
Is Julie a professional photographer?
No, but in 2020, she founded the AFAA (Association for Photography, Astronomy and Art), which grew to over 100 members in three years. Julie is a passionate and skilled promoter of photography, with expertise in many techniques. She has a strong sense of pedagogy and helps travelers get the most out of their photos. Her sharp eye quickly finds the best angles. She plans according to weather conditions, masters drone photography, and uses tools like PhotoPills (sun/moon planning).
Are Shutter Expeditions trips friendly?
Absolutely! Many travelers say it feels like being with family.
How are the trips organized?
Julie takes care of everything. You just have to enjoy the journey. Backup plans are always in place in case of unexpected situations.
Who insures Shutter Expeditions trips?
Our trips are covered by one of the top 4 insurance providers, including liability, health (medical evacuation, etc.), and trip cancellation (*see accepted reasons).
If I break my photography equipment during the trip, is it covered by the insurance?
No, each traveler is responsible for insuring their own equipment before the trip.
What happens if I have a health issue during the trip?
The travel insurance provided by Shutter Expeditions will cover medical expenses during the trip, within the coverage limits, including repatriation if needed.
Does Shutter Expeditions handle flight bookings?
Yes, we offer all-inclusive packages that can include your flight ticket.
What is the average satisfaction level of participants?
Very high. Our travelers are very satisfied and often return for more trips.
What is a photographic journey?
It’s a trip designed with photography as the main focus. All activities and outings are planned to capture the best images. Sometimes, editing time is also included in the schedule.
Is a certain level of physical fitness required?
It depends on the destination. Julie always provides this information in the trip description. For example, Paris requires walking but no technical difficulty. The Faroe Islands, however, require good physical condition (including distances, elevation, etc.).
Is there an age limit to participate?
No, the only limit is physical ability.
Can I join a trip if I don’t take photos?
Yes, companions are welcome even if they don’t take photos.
Can I join from any country?
Yes! In this case, you’ll simply meet the group at the destination airport.
Are the same photo trip destinations offered in different years?
Yes, some trips are repeated. If travelers have already done a similar trip with us, the itinerary is adapted. That’s what we did with Paris, for example.
What kind of accommodations do we stay in?
We usually rent large houses or stay in hotels, depending on the group and destination.
Can I take part in a photo trip using only my smartphone?
Absolutely! Julie will guide you on how to make the most of your phone—for example, how to shoot panoramas or long exposures.
